Farish Street Green Commons is a collaborative effort between the JCDC, 2°C Mississippi, the Jackson Redevelopment Authority, and community stakeholders. The reimagining of open space spanning from Town Creek to the eastern edge of Farish Street aims to help revitalize an underused and historic area for the surrounding community. The design includes a playscape, stage, and the introduction of extended canopies and vegetation to provide shade. Funding was generously provided by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Green Infrastructure

The design leverages green infrastructure to help plant seeds of sustainable practices in the area. Solar, water collection systems, green walls, and more, are used to demonstrate the projects’ commitment to sustainability.

Community Engagement

Community engagement with the project was paramount in the development of the design. A series of community meetings were held to gather community input to ensure the space would result as a valued amenity for the community. As seen in the images below, an interactive approach enabled community members to directly organize programmatic elements in the early design process.
